What Weidian is, and why it works nothing like Taobao
Weidian is software for running a shop, used mostly through WeChat. That one difference explains why you were given a link instead of a search result.
The model
A shop builder, not a marketplace
Taobao and 1688 are marketplaces: one enormous catalogue, one search box, millions of listings competing inside it. Weidian is the other model. It gives a seller the tools to run their own shop, and that shop lives at its own address.
The homepage makes this plain without meaning to. Its headline talks about helping merchants and driving business digitally, and the buttons down the side offer to open a shop for you or put you through to sales. Nothing on it is addressed to a shopper.
So there is no aisle to walk down. Each seller is an island, and you reach an island by being given its address.
Checked, not assumed
There is no buyer search on the desktop site
This is worth stating precisely, because it is the thing people refuse to believe. Asking the desktop site for a search results page returns a not found screen. Not an empty result set, not a login prompt. The route does not exist.
Product and shop routes, by contrast, are real: both forms of product address return a page titled Product detail
, and a shop address on its own subdomain returns a proper shop does not exist
message when the id is wrong. The platform is working fine. It simply has no front door for browsing.
One caveat worth keeping: this was checked on the desktop web. Weidian's phone app is a different surface and was not tested here, so treat the claim as being about the desktop site specifically.

Wrong tab
The seller side is a different site entirely
If someone sends you an address beginning with the merchant subdomain, they have copied the wrong tab. That address is the seller's own console, and it opens a login page carrying the shop owner service agreement.
It is a harmless mistake and an easy one to spot once you know the shape of it. Ask for the product address instead, the one with an item id in it.
Why this site exists
Why spreadsheets exist at all
Put those facts together and the rest follows. No browsing means no discovery, and no discovery means somebody has to do the finding and then tell everyone else. That telling used to happen in forum posts and group chats, which worked badly: links rotted, nobody knew which were still good, and the same questions were asked every week.
A spreadsheet is the tidied version. Products that someone has already located, grouped into categories with a photograph each, so you can look through a category the way you would in a shop rather than hunting through chat history.
