How buying through an agent actually works
A shopping agent is a buyer, a warehouse and a freight desk in one account. Here is the whole path from the link in your hand to the parcel at your door.
What a shopping agent is
Chinese sellers take domestic payment methods and ship domestically. You are neither. An agent closes that gap by being a person in China with an address and a bank account.
In practice it is one account on one website where four separate jobs happen: they pay the seller on your behalf, they receive the item and photograph it, they hold it in a warehouse while you decide, and they book the international leg when you are ready.
You are not buying from the agent. They never own the item and they do not choose it. That distinction matters when something is wrong, because the question is always whether the seller sent the wrong thing or the agent mishandled it.

The full path, step by step
Steps one to four are cheap to undo. Step five is where the money stops being recoverable, so it is the step worth slowing down for.
You paste the link
The item id is all the agent needs to find the listing. Add your size and colour in the note field at the same time, because the link does not carry them.
They buy it and it ships to their warehouse
This is domestic post inside China and takes a few days. Nobody quotes this leg, which is why delivery estimates feel wrong.
They photograph it
Your first real look at what the seller actually sent. This is the moment to reject something, not after it has crossed an ocean.
It waits while you decide
Free storage runs from arrival. Most agents give around ninety days, though the range across the market is wide. Storage windows, sampled on 2026-10-02.
You pick a shipping line and pay the freight
Separate from the item payment. Weight, route and what is inside the box all change the number, which is why it cannot be quoted up front.
It clears customs and arrives
Whether duty is collected on arrival or was included in the freight price depends on the line you picked.

Why one delivery estimate is really two
People quote a single number for how long an order takes and then feel misled. The number they were given was for the second half only.
The first clock starts when the agent pays the seller and runs until the item reaches the warehouse. It is domestic Chinese post, it is not in anyone's shipping table, and a slow seller can make it the longest part of the whole order.
The second clock starts only after you have paid the freight bill. That is the one the shipping table describes. Quoting it as the total is how a three week order becomes a surprise.
Why use an agent at all rather than a reshipper
A reshipping address gives you a warehouse and nothing else: you still have to pay the seller yourself, which is the part that does not work from abroad.
An agent also does the thing a forwarding address cannot, which is look at the item before it leaves the country. Discovering a problem while it is still in the same city as the seller is worth a great deal more than discovering it after.
The trade is that you are trusting one company with both your money and your parcel, which is why the next page is about telling them apart.
